I’ve read many great books on economics and government, but I must say, this is one of the most concise, hard hitting and entertaining books on the subject. This book is a must read for everyone. Even if you already know much about the current state of affairs in this country, you will most likely have an even better perspective after reading this book. Mr Harmon has provided a firestorm of scathing and provocative information that I haven’t personally received from any one book before. The cool part is that he also has given many example of how to fix the problems. I am a supporter of Ron Paul and all that he has done to wake up many sleeping Americans. This book is an excellent source of reference that should help to restore our founders intentions.

I think this book starts out a little slow probably because Harmon has to set the basic groundwork for what he really has to say. If you want to know the truth about how politics and governments take over a productive economy, not just recently but throughout history, then this book will answer your questions.

By breaking economics down into its most basic components, it gives you some simple tools to help understand economics probably as well as any academic. Then get ready for some real eye-opening treatment of some subjects that we just don’t talk about enough.

After reading his chapters on “Democracy versus Republic” and “The Paradox of Majority Rule”, you will never look at Democracy in the same way again. The “Case against Gold and Silver” in the chapter on “Gold-Backed Currency” gives the standard argument against a gold-backed currency. The rest of the chapter will prove once and for all that a convertible commodity-backed currency is the closest thing to a true medium of exchange and why the central banker (he calls them vampires) and government politicians and bureaucrats (the parasites) will never give us true “money” without a fight.

Just about every political issue is looked at from an economic point of view. Subjects from “Fiat Currency” to “War” to “Welfare” are covered in a concise manner only taking a few pages to cover each. It appears the 2 Chapters on “Social Security” are written from personal experience.

You can probably read this short book in an hour or two but you will think about it long after you’re done reading, at least I did. Is it the greatest book ever written? No! But it is one of the best treatments of economics and politics written for the non-academic that I have seen in a long time. If you don’t learn something you didn’t know before or never really thought about, I’ll be surprised.
